Dark mode,
done  properly.

Eclipse builds a real dark theme out of each site's own colours — not a washed-out inverted filter. Tune it live, per site, and keep your eyes intact after midnight.

Why your screen feels louder after midnight

By A. Writer · 8 min read

Every surface on this page is a colour the site chose for daylight. Eclipse does not throw an inverting filter over the top of it — it reads those colours and generates a matching dark palette.

Text keeps its contrast ratio, brand colours keep their hue, and photographs are left exactly as the photographer shot them.

FAQ

Questions & answers

It mainly helps in low light, where a bright white page forces your pupils to contract and can cause eye strain over a long session. Eclipse also enforces a minimum contrast ratio on Pro, so text stays readable instead of just dimmer.

Noticeably, but only on OLED/AMOLED screens (most modern phones and some laptops) — those panels turn a pixel off to show true black, so a darker page draws less power. On standard LCD screens the backlight stays on regardless, so the saving is minimal.

Most "dark mode" extensions apply a blanket colour-invert filter, which can wash out photos, flip logos, and misread a site's own dark-mode CSS. Eclipse analyses each element's role (surface, text, border, accent) and rewrites colours in OKLab space instead of inverting them, which is why images and brand colours stay intact.

Yes — the free tier has no account, no site limit, and no device limit. It is the complete theming engine, not a limited trial. Pro is optional and adds sync, custom themes, scheduling and the accessibility suite.

Eclipse only reads the current tab’s rendered styles to repaint them — it never reads, stores or transmits page content, and on the free tier nothing leaves your device at all. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what Pro accounts store.

Any Chromium-based browser — Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and others that support Manifest V3 extensions.

The free tier has no device limit at all. Pro adds sync, so your settings and custom themes follow you across every device you sign in on.
